IMPORTANT!

This is the ROBERT TEMPLE BIBLIOGRAPHICAL ARCHIVE. It contains descriptions and notes relating to almost 18,000 titles in the fields of British and American literature, being the bulk of the stock that has passed through our hands since 1984, with the addition of a few earlier items of especial interest. Books currently in stock are not included, and it is therefore necessary to supplement your search by looking at our Current Catalogues. For the most part full bibliographical descriptions are given, though for some earlier items, catalogued when computing space was more restricted the details given are quite brief. For an account of the conventions adopted, the abbreviations used, and reference sources consulted, please see our information pages.

Please note:
The arrangement here is the same as that adopted in our current catalogues, and as there our larger files are presented in sections for ease of downloading. At the end of each section you are invited to browse the next.

ANTHOLOGY. Wayfarer's love: Contributions from Living Poets. Issued by The Duchess of Sutherland. Cover design by Mr. Walter Crane. Westminster, Archibald Constable & Co., Ltd., 1904. Double f'cap 8vo; blank before half-title, blank at end, serving as paste-downs; title-page printed in red and black; pp.[80 (including blanks)]; bevelled mottled sea-green glazed cloth, blocked and lettered gilt on front cover, lettered gilt down spine; a.e. uncut; text-paper free end-papers, tipped in. Slight foxing of end-papers, with offsetting; otherwise a fine copy. Scarce.

Printed (?and bound) in Hanley by the children of The Potteries and Newcastle Cripples' Guild, for the benefit of which the book was published. The method of binding is peculiar, though effective - and was noticed by us only because the front paste-down (but not the free end-paper) is included in the pagination. Contributors include: Edmund Gosse, Thomas Hardy, Austin Dobson, Sturge Moore, Maurice Hewlett, J.W. Mackail, Gilbert Murray, William Sharp, Arthur Symons, the Hon. Maurice Baring, Arthur C. Benson, John Masefield, William Watson, W.B. Yeats, ‘A.E.', ‘Fiona Macleod', Paul Bourget, Wilfred Scawen Blunt, Henry Newbolt, Andrew Lang, The Hon. Emily Lawless, G.K. Chesterton, A.E. Housman, Robert Bridges, Laurence Binyon, Lady Margaret Sackville, John Davidson, Alice Meynell, Francis Thompson, Maurice Maeterlinck, Owen Seaman, etc. Sullivan, 214; Purdy, p.147. All of the poems are here first published, and of some, including those by Gosse and Chesterton, this is the only printing. The Hardy poem, ‘Life's Opportunity', was never reprinted in this form: it was included in ‘Time's Laughingstocks' in 1909, under the title ‘The Unborn', with an entirely different final stanza substituted for the one printed here.
